Root canal process step-by-step.

At Great Alpine Dental Advanced Aesthetics and Implants, getting a root canal is a fast, pain-free process. Our use of ultramodern aesthetics and advanced techniques ensure you feel comfortable and in control during the treatment.

Every patient is different, but here is what your process could look like following your initial consultation:

Your tooth is gently numbed.

Dr. Amit carefully numbs your tooth and its surrounding area, ensuring your utmost comfort during the treatment.

Decay is removed.

Minimally invasive techniques remove only the decay, preserving as much of the natural and healthy structure of your tooth as possible.

Shape and fill.

Once the infection is cleaned out, we will shape and seal your tooth, restoring comfort and function, and preventing further infection.

Further treatment.

Some root canal treatments need to be completed with the fitting of a dental crown. Our dentist may recommend this if your tooth has significant levels of decay present.

Walk out completely set.

By the time you leave your appointment, your root canal is done.

Book your check-up.

Although your root canal has saved your tooth, daily brushing and flossing are critical to maintaining health. We strongly encourage six-monthly, regular checks and cleans so we can assess your root canal (and any other dental work) to prevent the need for more in the future.

How do I book an appointment?

Call us on (03) 5752 2221 or contact us to request an appointment.

What can I expect on my first visit?

Aside from a very warm welcome, here are the typical steps from booking an appointment, to your first treatment:

  • A confirmation email and welcome pack is sent to you as soon as you make your booking. We may request existing dental records and/or ask you to bring dental x-rays less than 12-months old to your appointment.
  • On appointment day, you will be greeted by our friendly front desk staff.
  • Your dentist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your immediate dental issues and dental history, followed by any necessary dental exams, x-rays and/or images.
  • After your examination, we’ll display your teeth on 55-inch screens. We’ll discuss everything with you including fears and/or concerns, budget, needs, lifestyle, and goals.
  • If you wish to proceed, we’ll book your second visit (consent visit) to receive your mutually-agreed on, risk-based treatment plan.

Do I need a root canal?

Common symptoms include pain and swelling, severe hypersensitivity, large cavities or cracks, traumatic injuries, or an abscess.  It’s important to take these signs of pulp infection seriously — an infection could spread to your gums and jaw, seriously impacting your health.

Most people understandably think root canal therapy is difficult and painful, but the truth is endodontic treatments like these are usually no more uncomfortable than getting a filling or crown. Gentle and very careful numbing techniques guarantee you won’t be able to feel much of anything at all.

If your tooth is very badly damaged, infected, or dying,  it’s essential to remove the inside — the pulp — of the tooth, and clean it out completely. It sounds scary, but you won’t feel it. Once the nerve is removed, your infection will be gone, and so will the pain that brought you to us in the first place. A root canal treatment effectively ‘fills’ the root of your tooth, preventing the spread of infection, and saving your tooth from extraction.

Do I really need regular dental checkups?

Great Alpine Dental Advanced Aesthetic & Implants is a dental practice that believes in creating long-term strategies for exceptional dental health. Regular checkups are an important part of this because they help us to detect dental problems well in advance of your needing complex or corrective treatments. Checkups stop issues from progressing and keep your oral health in great shape.

I need all-on-4 and/or dental implants. Do I need to go to a dental practice in the city to get them?

You most certainly don’t.

We’re proud to be the centre for implant excellence in our beautiful VIC region, servicing the Myrtleford, Wangaratta, Albury Wodonga areas and beyond.

With 15+ years experience, Dr. Amit has completed many dental implants, crafting beautiful smiles for many happy people who, just like you, were tired of dealing with old and uncomfortable dentures, or looking to replace one or more missing teeth.

Do you do clear aligners?

Absolutely.

These popular alternatives to metal braces work by applying gentle pressure to teeth over time, gradually shifting them into the desired position, improving all over alignment and tooth functionality. Currently, we offer Invisalign, Angel and Spark Aligners.

Can you tell me more about your experience and credentials?

Not all Myrtleford dentists are the same, and not all dental practices consider themselves your dental health partners.

At Great Alpine Dental we have a unique focus on prevention. Dr Amit has extensive post graduate education on many different aspects of dentistry including implants, complex treatment planning, soft tissue surgery etc. And has provided these treatments to many patients. Our team is chosen based on shared values, high level of skill and a commitment to the local community and region.
