Sports Mouthguards and Bite Splints

Custom made Sports Mouthguards and Bite Splits.

Teeth are built strong. But they’re not designed to withstand heavy impact or excessive and ongoing force.

Sporting related dental injuries and wear from grinding and clenching are avoidable. At Great Alpine Dental, we can offer you custom made sports mouthguards and bite splints. They can help you protect your teeth comfortably, both on the field and through the night.

Custom Made Sports Mouthguards

Do you enjoy spending time participating in high-contact sporting and leisure activities? We provide custom-fitted mouthguards that offer you protection and comfort so you can do what you love with confidence.

Our dentists advise against store-bought mouthguards. They offer an inferior level of protection and are far less comfortable when compared with their custom made counterparts.

Bite Splints

Do you often wake up with a headache or experience dull, aching facial pains? This could be a sign that you grind and clench your teeth during your sleep. Some patients are completely unaware that they do this. But during an oral assessment, we can spot the telltale signs of teeth grinding and clenching.

The force created by the ongoing grinding and clenching causes a lot of damage to your teeth over time. This damage can be in the form of thinning, chipping, cracking and deep grooves.

To protect your teeth and save you needing restorative treatment down the track, it’s a good idea to wear a custom bite splint. Similarly, if you’ve had a cosmetic or restorative dental treatment such as veneers, a custom bite splint helps safeguard your investment.

Our dentists can create a bite splint that contours your teeth and allows you a peaceful night’s sleep, without damaging your teeth.

What To Expect When Coming In For A Custom Mouthguard or Bite Splint

Whether you’re having a sports mouthguard or bite splint made, the process is mostly the same and requires 2 appointments.

  • The first step is creating an impression of both your top and bottom teeth with a mould.
  • We then send your moulds away to our dental laboratory when they get made. This process can take up to 2 weeks.
  • Once we receive your custom made mouthguard or bite splint our dentists will check the fit and perfect it with any small adjustments you may need.

You only get one set of teeth, so protecting them is a worthwhile investment!
